I just got laid off on Friday. The small company was shaping up for a record quarter. However, it had been tough getting to that point. On pay-day (which was layoff day), both my credit cards were past due and my bank account was over draft. Both of my utility bills and my mobile bill all arrived. At least rent for this month has already been taken care of. My parents live 3,000 miles away - and I'm pretty stubborn about taking money from them.

Wait, so, record quarter = layoff? The details are complicated, but the "bottom fell out" of something at the last moment.

Whew.... what a ride this is going to be. Thanks for the post though!

Hey there,
This is pretty much exactly what happened to me last February. The only difference I had was, after the initial anger, I felt hurt. Kinda like I wasn't good enough for a girlfriend or something.

The double-standard for notice of unemployment (the employee leaving, vs being laid off) is a problem. My wife is pregnant (with twins). I told my boss that, and at the end of the week I got the axe. So, I can verify that it's completely unfair how the whole thing goes down.

Good luck out there. I highly recommend using emurse.com to get your resume out in the world. It's done wonders for me.

Best,
Cory
